Veterinarian, Dr. Sue Lynch and California Credentialed teacher Caitlyn Hemman
A bit of info about Dr. Lynch:
I graduated from UC Davis with a DVM degree in 1984 and for eight years before coming to Fresno, I worked as a relief veterinarian in five other zoos and several small animal and bird hospitals around the country.
I first came to Fresno to work at the Chaffee Zoo where I was the veterinarian for 14 years, the bird curator for seven, and general curator for five of those years. I left the Chaffee zoo in 2005 and have since worked at the San Diego Zoo twice on an interim basis and at Waterhouse Animal Hospital here in town.
I currently have a business as a mobile veterinarian treating pets, exotics and small farm animals
I own a red-lored amazon parrot but have homed other amazons, cockatoos, macaws, senegal and pionus parrots and a budgie. During my zoo career, I set up for breeding and hand raised many species of birds including parrots, turacos, flamingos, finches, partridges, hornbills, and doves.
I am currently a member of the Association of Avian Veterinarians, Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians, The American Medical Association, and The World Parrot Trust. I have been a member of Central Calif Avian Society for 17 years and served on the board of directors for many of those years.
Info about Caitlyn Hemman:
I grew up in the Fresno/ Clovis area and graduated from Fresno State in 1997 with a bachelors degree in Liberal Studies. I continued working towards my teaching credential and was hired by Clovis Unified to teach first grade. I was with Clovis for 4 years during which I taught 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade.
In 2001 our first son was born and my husband's job moved us to Indiana for 2 years. This ended my job with Clovis, but allowed me to stay home with our son. After moving back, our second son was born and soon after, so was my love for birds. I got into raising rare breed chickens, ducks and geese after learning about how many amazing breeds were actually disappearing. I along with two wonderful partners started Feather Acres - Rare Breed Poultry Preservation. We have raised many birds and have shipped thousands of eggs around the country to help preserve these dying breeds.
It is my hope to put my teaching experience to work and help the Foundation develop a strong educational program for children.
