My Story

When you think of aviculture and broadcast media, Nick Pendergrass should be the first name that comes to mind. Nick is a digital media pioneer who has merged his passion for the avian community and his fascination with media technology to bring aviculture into the 21st century and beyond.

Nick's infatuation with birds began early, growing up with Cockatiels. His experiences expanded pet birds; Amazons, Conures, Greys, Lories, Ringnecks, and Macaws. Nick joined his local bird club, where he became interested in the propagation of parrot species. Nick became the president of that club which is where he learned of the American Federation of Aviculture. Nick served as a state coordinator and regional director for AFA in addition to involvement with the Avicultural Society of America, National Parrot Foundation, and the Organization of Professional Aviculturists. Nick has also been instrumental in coordinating AFA's Disaster Relief efforts since 2018.

In 2016 Nick pioneered AFA’s first live broadcast of the conference’s awards banquet. In 2017 Nick brought the attention of many thousands of viewers giving a peek into just how informative and fun an AFA Conference could be while at the same time keeping most of the event exclusive to those in physical attendance. In 2018 Nick produced a program with multiple remote guests and a live audience for the Legislative night.

During COVID, Nick created a set of live stream programs for OPA which provided leaders in the avicultural community with an outlet to inform customers how they would navigate new protocols. In 2020 organizations like Flight Club Foundation were faced with canceling their events. Nick took the lead in producing the 2020 Seattle Parrot Expo Virtually for FCF which gained over 40,000 viewers for the organization, sponsors, and speakers that are still being viewed today.

In 2025 Nick resurrected The Exotic Animal Foundation an organization that focus on bringing educational content from the experts to those who are unable to make it in person using online media alternatives.

Nick also worked with World Parrot Expo to bring an expert involved in saving the Spix's Macaw to the Expo remotely from Brazil bring the latest information of what is happening in the field.
